Prosciutto di Parma is the first and only non-Japanese product recognised as a Geographical Indication product in Japan. This is an achievement that rewards the efforts of the producers, thus confirming the high quality of Italian-made products. Prosciutto di Parma can now count on the same protection it benefits from in Europe, becoming more recognisable on the Japanese market thanks to the Japanese GI logo on the label. The GI certification consolidates the safeguard of this product, thanks to the direct protection of the Consortium on intellectual property rights as well as the the added gain of the official protection by local authorities. With about 107.000 prosciutti, Japan is the first Asian market in terms of export and the second, after the USA, outside the European Union.
