The Wine Route of Erice DOC

The Wine Route of Erice DOC

The wine route of Erice, in the commune of Trapani in Northwest Sicily, is a route where history, art, food and wine are brought together. Here the sea provides a perfect backdrop to an area that is perfectly suited to high-quality wine production.

The Erice DOC Wine Route
“Spoil your senses”. This is the slogan of the Erice DOC Wine Route, a slogan chosen by the Trapani Tourism Promotion Board. The route is one of thirteen in Sicily, and promises to delight visitors like no other. Following the Erice Wine Route is to delight all five senses time and again. An journey of joy, pleasure and, above all, of connections.

The Territories of the Erice DOC Wine Route
There are many different routes that come together under the Erice DOC name. Regardless of which you take, each will allow you to experience first-hand the vineyards of Sicily which are well suited to making wine of the highest quality. The Fazio company, with a long-established history in the area, oversees the promotion and handling of quality wines produced by three contributing route members: the Trapani Winery, Erice Winery and Primavera Winery. Owing to the various participating companies and members, through the Erice DOC Route one can experience beautiful restored buildings, various agrotourism locations, and stay in Bed and Breakfasts with beautiful courtyards.

From Trapani to San Vito Lo Capo
Starting from Trapani, we come across Enoteca Trattoria Fontana where the locally-produced wines are served with accompanying traditional cuisine. Then arriving in Erice, one is treated to sweets made with almond, or filled with ricotta cheese and cream; once tasted they are not easily forgotten. After traversing the hills Segesta and its vast vineyards, one reaches the salt pans of Mozia Island. It boasts the highest quality salt in all of Italy. Both nutritious and flavourful, one can season with 35% less of this salt when compared to conventional table salt. Then as we continue along the salt route we come across the salt pans of Eltore e Infersa which produce mineral rich coarse salt.
In Scopello we find rustic Bed and Breakfasts such as Casale Corcell. These B&B are repurposed Bagli, stone houses once used as farmhouses. Finally in San Vito Lo Capo, we can participate in a cous cous festival. We can also visit the Zingaro Nature Reserve which spans 7km from San Vito to Scopello, with several grape varieties native to here now recognised as the origin of several world-famous wines.
