Two Wine Masters in Trentino

Marco Zanoni and Alessandro Fanti are two producers from the Trentino region who, thanks to their passion, have started two small companies where wine and territory have a special bond.

Trentino is a wine-growing mountainous region which offers extremely unique wines. The vineyards extend from the mild climate shore of lake Garda down to the bottom of the valley. The vineyards then make their way up the Dolomites, occupying a surface area of 10.033 hectares spanning different climate regions and terrains. The Consortium protecting Trentino wines represents over 90% of local producers and is engaged in the protection of autochthonous wines. It also handles and cares for their sustainability and promotion on both Italian and international markets. These two young winemakers are part of exactly this broad panorama, reaffirming the Trentino identity with their wines.

Marco Zanoni – Maso Furli
Maso Furli is one of the smallest winemaking companies in Trentino. It is located at a maso, a typical rural mountain hut of Trentino Alto-Adige, of about 300 years. There are four hectares of vineyards, almost all cultivated in guyot style. The company is managed by the owner-worker Marco Zanoni in collaboration with the oenologist Francesco Polastri. From this joint effort, five types of wine are born: Trentino doc Traminer, Sauvignon and Chardonnay as well as two IGT varieties, Manzoni Bianco and Rosso Furli, for an annual production of about 16000 bottles. In 2002, Marco Zanoni created and trademarked a way of pressing white grapes in the absence of oxygen. This technology allows to protect the aromatic properties of the grapes from oxidation during the pressing phase. The vineyards are grown without the use of chemical herbicides or pesticides. The goal is to offer minimal interventions to allow the soil and territory to express themselves fully. The wines produced this way are best after a long aging period.

Alessandro Fanti ‐ Vignaiolo Fanti
In the small village of Pressano, situated on a hill just north of Lavis and surrounded by a marvellous field of vineyards, is the wine producer Vignaiolo Fanti. It is here that Alessandro Fanti directly takes care of the vineyards and the wine. The technique he uses is that of the reclaiming of ancient agricultural techniques in order to improve the quality of the grape and the wine.
Here, wines are made with white grapes of the Incrocio Manzoni, Nosiola and Chardonnay varieties, as well as red grapes such as Teroldego, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with skilfull production and a long wait from fermentation to aging in the bottles. The experience of tradition fuses with modern oenological knowledge, giving life to authentic wines with character, consistency, fragrance, freshness and vitality, able to express the typical nature of their land of origin, Trentino.
