The Collis Veneto Wine Group is a consortium encompassing about 3,000 vine growers around the provinces of Verona, Vicenza and Padova. The associated cooperatives and private companies of the group - founded in 2008 and based in Monteforte d’Alpone (Verona) - are the undisputed protagonists of wine making in Veneto. Colognola ai Colli in the province of Verona, Colli Berici, Sartori and Cielo e Terra are only a few of the names of the many businesses involved in wine making. Collis, “hill” in Latin, is a clear reference to the hilly area in Western Veneto. Riondo is one of the top-of-the-range brands of the group.
The Riondo Winery
Officially registered in 1999, the Riondo Winery started as an established private sparkling wine producer in the years immediately after the second world war. With the acquisition by the Collis Group in 2008, the winery was renamed Collis-Riondo. Located in Monteforte d’Alpone, in the province of Verona, the land of Soave, the Riondo Winery specialises in the production and distribution of sparkling and semi-sparkling wines. Upon acquiring a majority stake and completing the foundation project of Collis, the Riondo Winery became the operational arm of the Group in the bottling field.
Sparkling and beyond
In addition to Prosecco and other semi-sparkling and sparkling wines, the Riondo Winery produces a number of still wines, white and red, namely Soave, Valpolicella and Amarone. Collis-Riondo is also one of the largest vine growers in Italy, accounting for over 15% of the vineyards in Veneto, growing white grapes like Garganega, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Glera, as well as red grapes like Corvina, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Riondo Winery has a robust business also abroad, reaching 35 markets, the most prominent of which are the USA and Scandinavia. The main brands are Riondo (PDO and varietal sparkling wines), Casa Burti (generic sparkling wines), Casa Lunardi (still wines), Castelforte (premium still wines) and i-Riondo (cocktails).
